Pete’s Otto Opened in 1981
Pete Berard moved to the Valdosta area when he was stationed at Moody Air Force base. After completing his service, Pete worked at a small independent Austin Healey dealership as a technician. In 1962, Pete and his best friend and fellow employee Ben Olliff struck out on their own and opened Imported Auto Center.
In 1981, Pete opened his own shop – Pete’s Otto. And the rest as they say, is history. The shop is still in its original location on East Ann Street. 1981 was also a special for Pete because it’s the year his son Tiger joined the team.
Our ASE Certified technicians and ASE Master Technicians have nearly 100 years combined experience in the automotive industry. We have experience with foreign, luxury and specialty cars, trucks, and services vehicles of all makes and models. Our technicians are trained at dedicated technical centers, where they develop unrivaled expertise in all aspects of maintaining and servicing European vehicles. The training courses are detailed and very demanding – only the best technicians are graduated and then certified. Our shop also has specialized dealership tools and computerized test equipment, like our AUTOLOGIC computer, needed for the best, most accurate repair and maintenance.
What is ASE Certified?
The independent, non-profit, National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) conducts the only industry wide, national certification program for automotive technicians. ASE certifies the competency of individual technicians through a series of standardized specialty exams (brakes, steering & suspension engine repair, etc.).
Tests are conducted twice a year at over 600 locations around the country and are administered by the American College Testing. The exams stress real-world diagnostic and repair, not theory. They are not easy; one of three test-takers fails. For those who pass, certification is valid for 5 years.
To remain certified, technicians must be re-tested every 5 years. Consumers benefit from ASE certification. It is a valuable yard stick by which to measure the knowledge and skills of individual technicians as well as the commitment to quality of the repair facility employing ASE certified technicians.
